You might have seen that Hull, yet again, made the top 10 of crap towns (it’s actually a city but ya’know), which was published by the Daily Mirror back in February and recently surfaced again on social media. In that list, hull stood at number 5 and has made the list every year since 2005 but why should you believe a tabloid with no backup?!
In light of being listed at number 5, I’m telling you all 5 fab things about Hull which will hopefully encourage you to visit, study or move to this wonderful city!

Music
Love live music, gigs and festivals? Well you’re in luck! Hull’s music scene is fantastic no matter what genre you’re into throughout the week. You have The Sesh at Polar Bear every Tuesday night which showcases some fantastic bands from the local and surrounding areas as well as some famous faces appearing over at the Bonus Arena.
If festivals are more your thing, fear not! Humber Street Sesh is a token ‘must experience’ for your plans. Taking place annually on the first weekend of August, the festival brings amazing artists, food and the wonderful people of Hull together for an incredible couple of days. Certainly one not to miss!

Combining music with the arts and some spectacular shows, the Freedom Festival is also one to watch, taking place on the final weekend in August/beginning of September. The Freedom Festival has everything from music to visual arts, street theatre to spectacles and more!
Museums, Arts and Culture
Following on from the Freedom Festival which is also packed with Arts and Culture, there is also so more to offer. If you're looking to delve into the history of the city, you have plenty of FREE museums to choose from. Learn all about William Wilberforce's movement to abolish the slave trade, or find out the maritime heritage of the city in Queen Victoria Square before heading over to Ferens Art Gallery.

If you're looking for a little bit of the Hull culture, check out Humber Street, located in the Fruit Market quarter, for some of the best bars, restaurants and more art - all on located the beautiful marina. Whilst you're there, you could also visit the penguins and sea-life in The Deep, one of the UK's most spectacular aquariums. There are so much more aspects of the Hull culture around the city, from Fish Trails to the thriving atmosphere of the avenues at night.
Sports
If music and the arts aren't your thing, there is always sport to fill your weekends! Whether you're looking for a team to play for or sport to spectate, there are plenty of options for you.
If you're looking to play a sport, Hull have plenty of grassroots teams in a huge range of sports for you to join. Not only local teams, the University also have a cracking range of sports and social societies, including football, rugby, netball and so many more!
More of a spectator? Hull have some great sporting teams including Hull KR and Hull FC for your dose of rugby league, Hull City AFC for some Championship football action and even Hull Pirates if you're more of a fan of Ice Hockey and that's just the start! Certainly research the local sports offering in the area if you're thinking of moving over or even just visiting.

Views, nature and a little bit of quiet
Great, we love Hull and it's city status, but it's also important to factor in that we're not to far away from some spectacular views and a little bit of quiet.
Whether you're on the top floor of the Brymor Jones Library looking out across the city (which is fantastic and also a great procrastination/distraction tactic) or would prefer to be down by the water at Humber Bridge and Hessle Foreshore, there are plenty of green spaces.

There are lots of parks, open fields and countryside to feast your eyes and mind on, in and around the city, making it a great place for hiking, exploring and getting in touch with nature.
University
Last but by no means least, the University of Hull. Even if you're not looking to study, the campus and surroundings are beautiful to see and experience. If you are considering coming over to study at the University of Hull, let me tell you a few more reasons why you should take the plunge...

The campus, as previously mentioned, is fantastic, with a mix of historic architecture in the Business School and high-tech new builds such as the Allam Medical Centre, there is a mix for some of the most fantastic photography and immersive learning surroundings. They are also in the middle of a £200 million redevelopment of facilities, including lots of state-of-the-art on-campus accommodation. I studied BA Marketing at the University from 2012 and graduated with a 2:1 and a grad scheme in 2015. The employability is excellent, as are the teaching staff, opportunities and welfare teams. All of this, mixed with a fabulous selection of courses, a top notch students union and all of the other reasons to love Hull, it's certainly worth checking out.
